Best Software Development Companies in Ireland (2026): 7 Companies Reviewed

Ireland is home to the European headquarters of many US technology companies and to a smaller but experienced local software industry, from enterprise engineering consultancies to regional studios. This ranking is written for a company from the US, the UK, another EU country or the Nordics that wants to hire one of the software development companies in Ireland – for enterprise engineering, dedicated teams, product development or custom business software. I am Adrian, an SEO consultant in Wrocław, and I research and write every ranking on this site myself. I kept 7 companies, all registered with the Companies Registration Office (CRO), and read each one’s CRO data.

How I ranked the software development companies in Ireland

I ranked the software development companies in Ireland by quality first, fit for a foreign client second and price third:

  • Engineering depth – technology focus, certifications such as ISO 27001, open-source work and own products.
  • Track record – named clients, years on the market and size.
  • Delivery model – onshore Irish teams, remote-first teams, or nearshore teams in other countries, as at Zartis and Sonalake.
  • Reviews – Purpledecks, GRIP Software Solutions and Tonic have Clutch ratings, from three, fourteen and two reviews. Where there are no usable reviews, I say so and name the strongest other signal.
  • Registration and ownership – CRO number, incorporation date and, where I could read them, directors and investors (via solocheck.ie and northdata.com, which republish CRO data). Most small Irish companies file abridged accounts without turnover, so I quote no revenue figures.

The list includes only firms registered and headquartered in Ireland, and excludes Irish offices of foreign IT consultancies and outsourcing groups. Nearform stays in although a US investor, Columbia Capital, has invested in it, because it was founded in Ireland and is still registered there. Many buyers in Ireland compare with British suppliers, so see also the same list for the UK; if your budget is tighter, here is the same list for Poland, where rates are usually lower.

The 7 best software development companies in Ireland, reviewed

Every software development company in Ireland below gets the same treatment: who they are, what clients say, the facts that matter when you hire, and my opinion on who should – and should not – work with them.

1. Nearform

Irish-founded enterprise engineering consultancy for Node.js, React, cloud and AI

Nearform is a remote-first software engineering consultancy founded in 2011 in Tramore, Co. Waterford, where its registered office still is. It builds enterprise platforms, digital products and agentic AI systems, runs AI-led legacy modernisation, and is known for its Node.js and open-source work. In 2023 it acquired Formidable, a Seattle engineering firm, which gives it a large US presence, according to the Irish Times and PR Newswire. Ownership: the US investor Columbia Capital made a strategic investment in Nearform in 2021; I could not confirm whether that is a controlling stake. The CRO classes it as a medium-sized company.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile, so there are no usable reviews. The strongest signals are its open-source track record in the JavaScript ecosystem, its size and its EU-US footprint; Renalytix is one named client.

Facts: founded 2011 · Tramore · English.

My take: the firm I would call first when an enterprise or scale-up needs senior JavaScript, cloud and AI engineers with teams on both sides of the Atlantic. Best for: enterprises and scale-ups that need senior JavaScript, cloud and AI engineering teams with an EU-US footprint. Not for: small fixed-price projects.

2. Zartis

AI transformation and dedicated nearshore engineering teams, run from Cork

Zartis is an Irish technology consulting group whose parent company, Assemblypoint Limited, is registered in Cork; the parent is named in Zartis’s privacy policy. It offers AI transformation, AI development and dedicated engineering teams, and says it has more than 300 AI experts in over 30 countries and clients across EMEA and North America. The CRO classes the parent as a medium-sized company. Check which group company you contract with, as teams sit in many countries.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile, so there are no usable reviews. The strongest signal is its client logos: Yahoo, Cabify, Mews, Upvest, Storyful and Datalex.

Facts: founded 2009 · Cork · more than 300 people · English.

My take: my pick for a scale-up that wants embedded engineers or an AI delivery team managed from Ireland. Best for: scale-ups that want embedded nearshore engineers or AI delivery teams managed from Ireland. Not for: buyers who want a single-office local team.

3. Sonalake

Product engineering, data and telecom BSS software, ISO 27001 certified

Sonalake is a software company in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, founded in 2007. It offers product design and development, platform engineering, data and analytics, agile team augmentation and AWS services, and sells its own telecom BSS products, Switched On Fibre and Switched On Billing. It is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and serves fintech, travel technology, security, life sciences and telecom clients. North Data links it to a Polish company in Poznań, Sonalake Services sp. z o.o., which looks like a delivery subsidiary. Its CRO number is in its website footer; the website does not state who owns it.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no named clients I could confirm, so there are no usable reviews. The strongest signals are its ISO 27001 certification and its own telecom software products.

Facts: founded 2007 · Blackrock · English.

My take: a solid choice for a telecom or fintech firm that wants a mature Irish engineering partner, possibly with delivery from Poland. Best for: telecom and fintech companies that need a mature Irish engineering partner with a delivery team in Poland. Not for: marketing websites.

4. Square1

Custom web and mobile apps with Stripe payments and AI integrations

Square1 Software is a Dublin software and web development company with offices in Ireland, the UK and France. It builds web and mobile apps, Stripe and Stripe Connect payment integrations and AI integrations, and runs PublisherPlus, its own platform for media publishers. Its website names Square1 Software Ltd., and I matched it by name to the CRO entry for Square 1 Software Limited, which filed a change of registered office effective July 2026.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile, so there are no usable reviews. The strongest signal is its client list: DoneDeal, Hot Press, TUI, Hyundai France and Nitro.

Facts: founded 2013 · Dublin · English.

My take: the one I would hire for a marketplace, publisher or SaaS product that needs payments built in properly. Best for: marketplaces, publishers and SaaS companies that need custom web and mobile app development with payments or AI integrations. Not for: simple brochure websites.

5. Purpledecks

Custom software, mobile and IoT development from the Irish midlands

Purpledecks is a software company in Longford, founded in 2012, that builds custom software (40% of its work on Clutch), mobile apps (25%), cloud integrations, IoT and UX. Clutch lists clients such as Musgrave (Centra), RTÉ, ResMed, Sage, Eir, Fáilte Ireland and Idemia.

What clients say. Clutch: 5.0/5 from 3 reviews. Reviewers praise a caring team for sensitive health apps, strong data protection and on-schedule delivery. Three reviews is a small sample; the client list carries as much weight.

Facts: founded 2012 · Longford · 10–49 people · $100–149/h · minimum project $10,000 · English.

My take: a good choice for a mid-size firm that wants mobile, IoT or custom apps from a team outside Dublin. Best for: mid-size firms that need mobile, IoT or custom apps from a regional Irish team. Not for: very large multi-team programmes.

6. GRIP Software Solutions

Small Dublin studio for custom business software and mobile apps

GRIP Software Solutions is a Dublin software company founded in 2006 and based at the Docklands Innovation Park on East Wall Road. Clutch lists its work as custom software development (50%), mobile apps (40%) and AI development (10%), mainly on Java and Spring with Android and iOS apps. It builds workflow automation and integration software for SMEs and organisations in training, healthcare and services. The registered company is Grip Communications Limited, a micro company with two shareholders; a separate, older Grip Software Solutions Ltd. is no longer active.

What clients say. Clutch: 4.9/5 from 14 reviews. Reviewers praise quality, timely delivery, responsive support and value for money, and several report efficiency gains and less manual work – one calls the team “professional with a personal touch”. Named clients include the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC), Excursions Ireland, Innopharma Technology and Medilink Ambulance Services.

Facts: founded 2006 · Dublin · 2–9 people · $50–99/h · minimum project $10,000 · English.

My take: the best-reviewed choice here for an SME that wants affordable bespoke software to automate its workflows. Best for: SMEs that want affordable bespoke business software or apps to automate workflows. Not for: large enterprise programmes that need big delivery teams.

7. Tonic

Custom software and low-code builds for SMEs and the mid-market

Tonic (Tonic Labs) is a Dublin custom software studio; Clutch lists its work as custom development (60%), UX/UI (20%), low-code and no-code (10%) and mobile (10%), for small and mid-market firms. Doyle Shipping Group used it to build a port-agency system that automates documents, e-signatures and emails. Clutch says it was founded in 2020, while the company I matched by name, Tonic Labs Limited, with a registered office in Swords, was incorporated in 2022.

What clients say. Clutch: 5.0/5 from 2 reviews. Doyle Shipping Group praises quality and speed, and another reviewer an on-time, on-budget product launch. Two reviews is not a usable sample.

Facts: founded 2020 · Dublin · 10–49 people · $50–99/h · minimum project $10,000 · English.

My take: worth a call for an SME that wants to automate internal workflows with custom or low-code software. Best for: SMEs that want to automate internal workflows with custom or low-code software. Not for: buyers who need a long track record.

Quality, specialisation and what software development companies in Ireland charge

Only three software development companies in Ireland in this ranking show prices, all on Clutch: Purpledecks lists $100–149 an hour, and GRIP Software Solutions and Tonic $50–99, each with a $10,000 minimum project. Nearform, Zartis, Sonalake and Square1 quote after a briefing, usually as time and materials or a dedicated team. Clutch shows these figures in US dollars, but Irish companies invoice in euros.

The main choice is between a large enterprise engineering consultancy (Nearform), dedicated and nearshore team providers (Zartis, Sonalake), a product builder for marketplaces and publishers (Square1) and smaller studios for custom business software (Purpledecks, GRIP Software Solutions, Tonic).

How to choose a software development company in Ireland

Choosing a software development company in Ireland starts with the delivery model you want:

  • Where the engineers sit – some Irish firms deliver from Ireland, others manage teams in other countries. Ask where your developers will be, and which company employs them.
  • Contracting entity – groups such as Zartis have a parent company and subsidiaries abroad; make sure the contract names the company you expect.
  • Security and data – if you handle sensitive data, ask for ISO 27001 certification, as at Sonalake, and a GDPR data processing agreement.
  • Intellectual property – agree in writing that you own the code and the IP once you have paid.
  • Time zone – Ireland overlaps the whole European working day and US East Coast mornings, which helps with transatlantic teams.

Also check the paperwork when you hire a software development company in Ireland. Search the company name or CRO number free on core.cro.ie, the Companies Registration Office portal, to see the status, registered office and filing history. Check the Irish VAT number (IE followed by digits and one or two letters) in the EU’s VIES database. If your business is in another EU country and gives its own VAT number, the reverse charge usually applies and the invoice carries no Irish VAT; for a business outside the EU, Irish VAT is in most cases not charged on these services. Confirm with your adviser – this is not legal or tax advice. Ireland runs on GMT in winter and Irish Standard Time (GMT+1) in summer, one hour behind Central European Time.

Software development companies in Ireland: FAQ

The questions foreign companies ask most before hiring software development companies in Ireland.

How much do software development companies in Ireland charge?

Software development companies in Ireland charge about $50–149 an hour where they show a rate on Clutch, with minimum projects around $10,000. Larger firms quote dedicated teams or time and materials in euros after a briefing.

Are the software development companies in Ireland in this ranking Irish-owned?

No, not all the software development companies in Ireland in this ranking are wholly Irish-owned: Nearform has a US investor, Columbia Capital. All of them were founded in Ireland and are registered there; for most, the website does not state the ownership.

Which software development company in Ireland is best for a dedicated team?

The best software development company in Ireland for a dedicated team, in my view, is Zartis, which builds embedded engineering and AI teams across more than 30 countries. Sonalake is the alternative if you work in telecoms or fintech.

Do software development companies in Ireland charge VAT to foreign clients?

No, software development companies in Ireland usually do not charge Irish VAT on B2B services to a business in another EU country that gives its VAT number, because the reverse charge applies, and in most cases not to businesses outside the EU. This is not tax advice.

My verdict: which software development company in Ireland to hire

Choosing among software development companies in Ireland depends on the size and type of your project. For senior enterprise engineering with an EU-US footprint, hire Nearform. For embedded engineers or an AI team, hire Zartis. For telecom or fintech product engineering, hire Sonalake. For a marketplace or publisher product, talk to Square1, and for custom business software on a smaller budget, GRIP Software Solutions or Purpledecks.

Whichever software development company in Ireland you choose, agree who owns the code, where the team sits and which company you are contracting with before work starts.
