Italy’s software development market runs from engineering firms with more than 1,000 people to product studios of a few developers. This ranking is written for a company from the US, the UK, Germany or the Nordics that wants to hire one of the software development companies in Italy – for custom business software, a product or app, data and cloud engineering, or long-term development and operations. I am Adrian, an SEO consultant in Wrocław, and I research and write every ranking on this site myself. I kept 8 companies, all registered and headquartered in Italy.
Software development companies in Italy at a glance
If you only have a minute, these are the software development companies in Italy I would shortlist as a foreign client, in the order I would contact them. Each is reviewed below, with its registry data on its company profile.
- Spindox – Large Italian software-engineering and digital-transformation company with its own R&D lab.
- Sorint.lab – Bergamo IT-services group for open source, DevOps, cloud and custom software.
- Bitrock – Back-end, data, platform and AI engineering consultancy.
- Intré – Agile software factory near Milan for architecture, cloud and AI engineering.
- JAGAAD – Milan custom-software and product-development partner for start-ups and scale-ups.
- Uqido – Padua software house for AI, computer vision, XR and IoT.
- Belka – Trento digital-product studio for mobile apps, web products and UX.
- Coding Duck – Small north-east Italian studio for cloud, custom software and apps.
How I ranked the software development companies in Italy
I ranked the software development companies in Italy by quality first, specialisation and fit for a foreign client second and price third:
- Engineering depth – team size, certifications and named clients.
- Reviews – verified Clutch reviews where they exist. JAGAAD, Belka and Coding Duck have reviews I could use; for the others I name the strongest other signal.
- Delivery in Italy – I want the people who write your code to work for the Italian company you sign with.
- Fit for foreign clients – English, offices abroad and international clients.
- Financial transparency – where filed accounts (bilanci) are available, they are on the company profile.
- Registration – every company is registered in the Italian Registro delle Imprese and headquartered in Italy.
I left out the Italian offices of foreign IT consultancies, such as Accenture and Capgemini. I also dropped one Milan company with good Clutch reviews, because its Italian entity has almost no staff and its development team works from Ukraine. If cost matters more than location, see the same list for Poland, where rates are lower.
The 8 best software development companies in Italy, reviewed
Every software development company in Italy below gets the same treatment: who they are, what clients say, the facts that matter when you hire, and my opinion on who should – and should not – work with them.
1. Spindox
Large Italian software-engineering and digital-transformation company with its own R&D lab
Spindox is a Milan software and digital-services company with more than 1,000 employees and more than 100 clients in 13 sectors, by its own account. Its R&D arm, Spindox Labs, works on AI, robotics and IoT, and its products include the decision-intelligence platform Ublique. It reported €94.0 million of revenue for 2025, roughly breaking even. It is directed and coordinated by Spindome Holding S.p.A., whose shareholders I did not check.

Facts: founded 2007 · Milan · 1,000+ people · Italian, English.
My take: my first call for an enterprise that needs a large Italian engineering partner for long-running development and operations. Best for: enterprises that need a large Italian engineering partner for long-running development and operations. Not for: start-ups or small fixed-price projects.

Facts: founded 2015 · Trento · 6–9 people · $50–99/h · minimum project $10,000 · Italian, English.

Quality, specialisation and what software development companies in Italy charge
Only a few of the software development companies in Italy in this ranking publish prices, all on Clutch: Belka and Coding Duck list $50–99 an hour with a $10,000 minimum project, and JAGAAD a $10,000 minimum without an hourly rate. The larger firms quote per project or per team, so ask for a written offer that states the team, the day rates by role and how changes are priced.
The main choice is between large engineering firms – Spindox and SORINT.lab, each with more than 1,000 people – mid-size specialists such as Bitrock, Intré and Uqido, and small product studios such as JAGAAD, Belka and Coding Duck. The large firms suit long programmes and operations; the small studios suit an MVP or a single app, but cannot add many developers quickly.
How to choose a software development company in Italy
Choosing a software development company in Italy starts with the kind of project:
- Long-running enterprise development – Spindox.
- Open source, DevOps, cloud and 24/7 operations – SORINT.lab.
- Senior data and platform engineers for your teams – Bitrock.
- Custom business software built with agile methods – Intré.
- Applied AI, computer vision or AR/VR – Uqido.
- An MVP or app for a start-up – JAGAAD, Belka or Coding Duck.
Language matters: the companies in this ranking work in English with foreign clients, but documentation and meetings in smaller studios may default to Italian, so agree the project language in the contract. Invoices are in euros and Italy works on CET (CEST in summer). For software development services to a business in another EU country, the company invoices without Italian VAT (IVA) under the reverse charge; for clients outside the EU, no IVA applies, and Italy’s domestic e-invoicing system (SDI) does not stop a normal invoice to you. Every Italian company must show its Partita IVA on its website: check it in VIES and in the Registro delle Imprese, where filed accounts (bilanci) are public.

The best software development company in Italy for a start-up is, in my opinion, JAGAAD if you need a full product team quickly, and Belka or Coding Duck if a small senior team is enough.
My verdict: which software development company in Italy to hire
Choosing among software development companies in Italy depends on scale. For long-running enterprise development, hire Spindox. For DevOps, cloud and operations, hire SORINT.lab. For senior data and platform engineers, hire Bitrock. For custom business software, hire Intré. For an MVP, hire JAGAAD or, for a smaller budget, Coding Duck.
Whichever software development company in Italy you choose, check its Partita IVA in VIES, ask where the developers on your project are employed, and agree the scope, the intellectual property and the change process in writing.
