Best Logistics Companies in Switzerland (2026): 9 Companies Reviewed

Switzerland sits in the middle of Europe but outside the EU customs union, so every shipment in or out crosses a customs border, and the Alps make rail a large part of freight transport. This ranking is written for a company from the US, the UK, the EU or the Nordics that needs freight forwarding, customs, warehousing or Swiss distribution from one of the logistics companies in Switzerland. I kept 9 companies, all registered and headquartered in Switzerland, and looked up each one’s UID number and officers.

Logistics companies in Switzerland at a glance

If you only have a minute, these are the logistics companies in Switzerland I would shortlist as a foreign company, in the order I would contact them. Each is reviewed below, with its registry data on its company profile.

  1. Kuehne+Nagel – Swiss-headquartered global forwarder for sea, air, road, customs and contract logistics.
  2. Planzer – Family-run Swiss road, warehousing and parcel logistics network.
  3. M+R Spedag Group – Basel-area independent forwarder for sea, air and road freight.
  4. Fracht – Family-run Basel forwarder known for air, sea and project cargo.
  5. Camion Transport – Family-run Swiss general cargo, warehousing and distribution network since 1925.
  6. Galliker – Family-owned Lucerne transport and warehousing group, known for cold-chain logistics.
  7. Bertschi – Family-owned logistics group known for intermodal chemical transport.
  8. Welti-Furrer – Swiss removals and special-transport company, known for fine art and relocations.
  9. Hupac – Swiss intermodal rail operator for trans-Alpine and European combined transport.

How I ranked the logistics companies in Switzerland

I ranked the logistics companies in Switzerland by quality first, fit for a foreign client second and price third:

  • Service – international sea and air forwarding (Kuehne+Nagel, M+R Spedag, Fracht), Swiss distribution and warehousing (Planzer, Camion Transport, Galliker), or specialist transport (Bertschi, Welti-Furrer, Hupac).
  • Network – the number of Swiss branches and whether they cover the French- and Italian-speaking regions as well as German-speaking Switzerland.
  • Track record – years on the market and, for Kuehne+Nagel, published annual reports.
  • Ownership – most of these companies are family-run, which I note where the register supports it.
  • Reviews – no usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for any company in this list, so I say which other signal I used instead.
  • Registration – I read each UID number and the officers from Moneyhouse, which republishes the Swiss Official Gazette of Commerce (SHAB). Several register dates refer to a newer legal entity, not to when the business started, and I say so.

I left out the Swiss branches of foreign logistics groups such as DSV, Rhenus and DB Schenker. Specialisations I could not verify for this ranking are marked with “known for”.

The 9 best logistics companies in Switzerland, reviewed

Every logistics company in Switzerland below gets the same treatment: who they are, what clients say, the facts that matter when you hire, and my opinion on who should – and should not – work with them.

1. Kuehne+Nagel

Swiss-headquartered global forwarder for sea, air, road, customs and contract logistics

Kuehne+Nagel is one of the world’s largest freight forwarders and contract logistics providers. It was founded in Bremen in 1890 and later moved its headquarters to Switzerland; the group holding, Kühne + Nagel International AG, was registered in 1966 and sits in Feusisberg-Schindellegi in the canton of Schwyz. It covers sea and air freight, road logistics, customs and contract logistics such as warehousing and fulfilment worldwide. The holding is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, so audited group figures are public in its annual report; I did not copy them here. Its long-time main shareholder, Klaus-Michael Kühne, sits on the board.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating. Its listing on the SIX Swiss Exchange, with published annual reports, and its global network are the strongest signals of any company here.

Facts: founded 1890 · Schindellegi (Schwyz) · English, German, French, Italian.

My take: the obvious first call for a shipper that wants one forwarder for ocean, air, road, customs and warehousing across many countries. Best for: global shippers that need one forwarder for ocean, air, road, customs and warehousing across many countries. Not for: small one-off domestic Swiss shipments, where a regional carrier is quicker to deal with.

2. Planzer

Family-run Swiss road, warehousing and parcel logistics network

Planzer is a family-run Swiss transport and logistics company based in Dietikon near Zürich, with 63 registered branches across Switzerland. It runs distribution, warehousing and its own parcel service, Planzer Paket, which appears as a branch in the register, and it is known for combining road and rail in its domestic distribution. The current Planzer Transport AG dates from a 2022 restructuring, so its register date does not reflect the much older business; it has a share capital of CHF 20 million and is audited by OBT. The Planzer family sits on the board.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating, and I have no named clients. A network of 63 branches across all language regions is the signal.

Facts: Dietikon (Zürich) · German, French, Italian, English.

My take: my first choice for a foreign brand that needs nationwide distribution, warehousing and B2B or B2C delivery inside Switzerland. Best for: foreign brands that need nationwide Swiss distribution, warehousing and B2B or B2C delivery. Not for: intercontinental sea and air forwarding.

3. M+R Spedag Group

Basel-area independent forwarder for sea, air and road freight

M+R Spedag Group is a freight forwarding group headquartered in Muttenz near Basel. Its registered purpose covers the transport of goods of all kinds by land, water and air, agency work and related services, and financing within the group. The group holding was registered in 2007, while its operating companies go back further; I have not verified the founding year. It is audited by PwC. I could not open its website for this ranking, and its ownership is not shown in the register extract I read.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating, and I have no named clients. Its position as a Swiss forwarder at the Basel trade hub is the signal.

Facts: Muttenz (Basel) · English, German, French.

My take: a good fit for a mid-sized shipper that wants an independent Swiss forwarder for overseas sea and air freight and customs via Basel. Best for: mid-sized shippers that want a Swiss forwarder for overseas sea and air freight and customs via Basel. Not for: buyers that need large-scale e-commerce fulfilment.

4. Fracht

Family-run Basel forwarder known for air, sea and project cargo

Fracht AG is a Basel freight forwarding and logistics company registered in 1955, with Swiss branches in Baden, Rapperswil, Wallisellen, Mendrisio and at Geneva Airport. Its registered purpose covers freight forwarding, logistics services and trade in goods, and the Reisdorf family appears on its board. It is known for project cargo and heavy-lift shipments and for an international network, but I did not verify either for this ranking, so ask about its experience with your type of cargo.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating, and I have no named clients. Seven decades in Basel and branches in all three language regions are the signal.

Facts: founded 1955 · Basel · English, German, French, Italian.

My take: worth a call for industrial air and sea shipments where you want a hands-on, family-run Swiss forwarder. Best for: industrial air and sea shipments where a hands-on Swiss forwarder is preferred. Not for: domestic parcels or B2C fulfilment.

5. Camion Transport

Family-run Swiss general cargo, warehousing and distribution network since 1925

Camion-Transport AG Wil CT is a Swiss transport and logistics company registered in 1925, with its seat in Wil SG and 14 registered branches, including Hägendorf, Thal, Basel and Vufflens-la-Ville in French-speaking Switzerland. Its purpose is domestic and international goods transport, mainly by truck, warehousing and truck maintenance. Members of the Jäger family hold the board presidency and management, which suggests family control; ownership is not shown. I could not open its website, so check the web address.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating, and I have no named clients. A century in business and a national branch network are the signal.

Facts: founded 1925 · Wil (St. Gallen) · German, French, English.

My take: a strong choice for an importer that needs pallet and general cargo distributed across Switzerland, plus warehousing. Best for: Swiss-wide pallet and general cargo distribution plus warehousing for importers. Not for: international air and sea forwarding.

6. Galliker

Family-owned Lucerne transport and warehousing group, known for cold-chain logistics

Galliker Transport is a family-owned Swiss transport and logistics company in Altishofen, canton of Lucerne, with members of the Galliker family on its board. Its registered purpose covers transport of all kinds, storage, handling and freight forwarding, plus vehicle trading and repair, and the group has further companies in Möhlin and Staad. It is known for temperature-controlled logistics for food and healthcare, but I did not verify that specialisation for this ranking. The current company was registered in 1999; the business is older.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating, and I have no named clients. Family ownership and a group of Swiss companies are the signal.

Facts: Altishofen (Lucerne) · German, French, Italian, English.

My take: worth shortlisting for food or healthcare products that need temperature-controlled distribution inside Switzerland – confirm the cold-chain service on a call. Best for: distribution and warehousing inside Switzerland, especially temperature-controlled goods. Not for: overseas air and sea forwarding as the core service.

7. Bertschi

Family-owned logistics group known for intermodal chemical transport

Bertschi is a family-owned Swiss logistics company in Dürrenäsch, canton of Aargau, with members of the Bertschi family on its board. Its registered purpose covers transport of all kinds, warehousing, customs clearance and logistics consulting. It is known for intermodal tank-container transport – combining rail, road and sea – for the chemical industry across Europe, but I did not verify that for this ranking. The company was registered in 1964; I have not verified when the business began.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating, and I have no named clients. Family ownership and six decades as a registered company are the signal.

Facts: Dürrenäsch (Aargau) · German, English, French.

My take: the company I would ask about chemical or liquid bulk shipments across Europe, after checking its current network. Best for: chemical and bulk shippers that need intermodal tank-container logistics across Europe. Not for: parcels or consumer goods distribution.

8. Welti-Furrer

Swiss removals and special-transport company, known for fine art and relocations

Welti-Furrer AG plans and carries out transport, removals, freight forwarding and related logistics, including storage, in Switzerland and abroad. Its seat is in Zug and it has 11 registered branches. It is known for corporate relocations, fine-art handling and special transports, but I did not verify those services for this ranking. The current company was registered in 1993; the business is older. Board names suggest Swiss family control, but ownership is not shown.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating, and I have no named clients. Eleven branches and a long history in Zürich are the signal.

Facts: Zug / Zürich · German, English, French.

My take: the company I would ask about an office move, a fine-art shipment or a special transport in Switzerland. Best for: corporate relocations, fine-art and special transports in Switzerland. Not for: large-volume container forwarding.

9. Hupac

Swiss intermodal rail operator for trans-Alpine and European combined transport

Hupac SA in Chiasso organises and runs combined (intermodal) transport, moving trailers, containers and swap bodies by rail through and around the Alps. It was entered in the Ticino commercial register in 1967, and its board includes representatives of the logistics and rail industries. It mostly sells rail capacity to transport companies and forwarders rather than door-to-door service to shippers, which is why it sits last here. Its ownership is not shown in the register extract I read.

What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating, and I have no named clients. More than five decades in trans-Alpine rail freight are the signal.

Facts: founded 1967 · Chiasso (Ticino) · Italian, German, English.

My take: the operator to know if you or your forwarder move unaccompanied trailers or containers by rail between Northern Europe and Italy. Best for: forwarders and shippers moving trailers or containers by rail between Northern Europe and Italy. Not for: shippers that want door-to-door service from a single forwarder.

Quality, specialisation and what logistics companies in Switzerland charge

None of the logistics companies in Switzerland in this ranking publishes prices; freight and warehousing are quoted per shipment or per contract. As a general market observation, Swiss road transport is expensive by European standards, partly because of high wages and the distance-based heavy vehicle fee (LSVA), and quotes are usually in Swiss francs (CHF) or, for international freight, often in euros or US dollars. Ask for customs clearance, import VAT handling and fuel surcharges to be listed separately.

The main choice is between a global forwarder (Kuehne+Nagel), Swiss forwarders for overseas and European freight (M+R Spedag, Fracht), national distribution and warehousing networks (Planzer, Camion Transport, Galliker) and specialists for chemicals, special transports and intermodal rail (Bertschi, Welti-Furrer, Hupac).

How to choose a logistics company in Switzerland

Choosing a logistics company in Switzerland starts with where your goods come from and where they go. This is a general overview, not legal or tax advice:

  • Customs – Switzerland is not in the EU customs union, so goods from the EU need a customs declaration, and import VAT (8.1% standard rate since 2024) is collected at the border. Switzerland abolished import duties on most industrial goods in 2024, but agricultural products still carry duties. Ask who acts as the importer of record.
  • Domestic distribution – for nationwide delivery inside Switzerland, a network with branches in all language regions, such as Planzer or Camion Transport, saves you from managing several carriers.
  • Road rules – Switzerland generally bans heavy trucks at night and on Sundays, which affects delivery windows. Ask how the provider plans around it.
  • Rail – much trans-Alpine freight goes by rail; for unaccompanied trailers or containers between Northern Europe and Italy, ask your forwarder whether it uses an operator such as Hupac.
  • Special goods – chemicals, cold chain and fine art need specialist equipment and insurance; check the provider’s certificates for your goods.

Also check the paperwork when you hire a logistics company in Switzerland. Switzerland is not in the EU, so the EU VAT reverse charge does not apply; in most cases cross-border transport services are zero-rated for Swiss VAT, but services inside Switzerland, such as warehousing, can carry Swiss VAT. Swiss VAT numbers are not in VIES; check a company in the UID register (uid.admin.ch) and on Zefix. Switzerland is on Central European Time. For comparison, here is the same list for Poland, where rates are lower.

Logistics companies in Switzerland: FAQ

The questions foreign companies ask most before hiring logistics companies in Switzerland.

Do logistics companies in Switzerland handle customs?

Yes, most logistics companies in Switzerland in this ranking handle customs. Kuehne+Nagel covers customs and Bertschi’s registered purpose includes customs clearance; ask any provider whether it can also act as your importer of record or fiscal representative.

Which logistics company in Switzerland is best for e-commerce delivery?

The best logistics company in Switzerland for e-commerce delivery, in my opinion, is Planzer, which runs warehousing and its own parcel service through 63 Swiss branches. Kuehne+Nagel also offers fulfilment if you need it in several countries.

Do I pay Swiss VAT on goods shipped by a logistics company in Switzerland?

Yes, in most cases goods imported by a logistics company in Switzerland carry Swiss import VAT, collected by the customs authority at the border, even though most industrial goods no longer carry import duty. Who pays and reclaims it depends on who is the importer. This is not tax advice.

Do logistics companies in Switzerland work in English?

Yes, all the logistics companies in Switzerland in this ranking list English, alongside German and in many cases French or Italian. Drivers and depot staff may speak only the local language, so agree an English-speaking contact person.

My verdict: which logistics company in Switzerland to hire

Choosing among logistics companies in Switzerland depends on your goods and your routes. For global freight, customs and contract logistics, hire Kuehne+Nagel. For nationwide Swiss distribution, warehousing and parcels, hire Planzer. For overseas sea and air freight via Basel from a Swiss independent, hire M+R Spedag. For pallets and general cargo across Switzerland, hire Camion Transport.

Whichever logistics company in Switzerland you choose, agree who is the importer of record and how import VAT is handled before the first shipment leaves.
