The UK has one of the most developed search marketing scenes in Europe, and many foreign companies hire a British agency to win English-language search in the UK, the US and beyond. This ranking is written for a company from the US, the EU or the Nordics that wants to hire one of the SEO agencies in the UK – whether for technical SEO, digital PR and link earning, eCommerce search or visibility in AI answers. I am Adrian, an SEO consultant in Wrocław, and I research and write every ranking on this site myself. I kept 10 agencies and checked each one on Companies House.
SEO agencies in the UK at a glance
If you only have a minute, these are the SEO agencies in the UK I would shortlist as a foreign company, in the order I would contact them. Each is reviewed below, with its Companies House data on its company profile.
- Impression – Independent B Corp agency for SEO, paid media and digital PR under one roof.
- Rise at Seven – Search-first creative agency for SEO, digital PR, social search and AI visibility.
- Re:signal – Specialist eCommerce SEO and GEO agency, including multilingual sites.
- Reboot Online – Data-led SEO, GEO and digital PR agency with an international focus.
- Builtvisible – Technical and enterprise SEO, content and digital PR, now part of Brave Bison.
- Blue Array – Pure-play SEO and GEO agency with strong technical and training work.
- Semetrical – Engineering-heavy technical SEO and data consultancy for enterprise sites.
- Screaming Frog – Search marketing agency from the makers of the SEO Spider crawler.
- Kaizen – Creative digital PR agency for links and authority, with SEO and AI search.
- Digitaloft – SEO and digital PR agency from Cumbria focused on buying-stage searches.
How I ranked the SEO agencies in the UK
I ranked the SEO agencies in the UK by quality first, fit for a foreign client second and price third:
- Specialisation – what each agency actually does best: technical SEO, digital PR and link earning, eCommerce search or AI and GEO visibility.
- Track record – named clients, years on the market and published case studies. Awards claimed on an agency’s own site are noted as claims.
- Reviews – only three of the ten have Clutch reviews, and only Impression has more than four. Where there are no usable reviews, I say so and name the strongest other signal.
- Fit for foreign clients – international and multilingual work, campaigns outside the UK and offices in the US.
- Registration and ownership – every agency is incorporated in the UK and headquartered there, and I checked its company number, status and directors on Companies House. Where an agency belongs to a group, I say so.
I left out UK offices of foreign networks and agencies that are now part of them – Search Laboratory, for example, whose website now redirects to the Havas network. I also left out Verve Search, which has been renamed Fuse International, and Aira, because I could not confirm which legal entity is behind it. Builtvisible stays in, because its owner, Brave Bison Group plc, is itself a UK company. If your budget is tighter, see the same list for Poland, where rates are lower.
The 10 best SEO agencies in the UK, reviewed
Every SEO agency in the UK below gets the same treatment: who they are, what clients say, the facts that matter when you hire, and my opinion on who should – and should not – work with them.
1. Impression
Independent B Corp agency for SEO, paid media and digital PR under one roof
Impression is an integrated performance marketing agency from Nottingham, with offices in London, Manchester and New York (through Impression Digital Inc. in Delaware). It covers SEO, paid media, digital PR and social, analytics and CRO, with a sector focus on ecommerce, B2B, SaaS and fintech. It is a certified B Corp, and its site shows 2025 badges for Independent Agency of the Year and Best Large Integrated Search Agency. Clients include Clarins, Cancer Research UK, Specsavers, Virgin, Vaillant and Wizz Air. Since July 2024 the company has been controlled by Impression Digital Group Limited, which replaced the founders Aaron Dicks and Thomas Craig as the person with significant control; I could not verify who owns that group.
What clients say. Clutch: 4.9/5 from 7 reviews. All seven reviewers are UK-based, from Nottingham, London, Petersfield and Peterborough. They praise quality, communication, timeliness and transparency; the criticisms are dense PPC reporting, some early over-servicing and occasional communication gaps. Cost is the lowest-rated item at 4.5 – one reviewer calls it “not a cheap agency, but you get what you pay for”.
Facts: founded 2012 · Nottingham · 50–249 people · $150–199/h · minimum project $5,000 · English.
My take: the safest all-round choice in this ranking – the most reviewed, large enough to run SEO, paid media and digital PR together, and already set up to serve US clients from New York. Best for: mid-market and enterprise brands that want SEO, paid media and digital PR handled together by one large independent team. Not for: small budgets, as retainers start at about $5,000 a month.

2. Rise at Seven
Search-first creative agency for SEO, digital PR, social search and AI visibility
Rise at Seven is a search-first creative agency founded in Sheffield in 2019 that combines onsite SEO, digital PR, content, social search on TikTok and YouTube, and visibility in AI and LLM answers (GEO). Clutch lists Sheffield as its headquarters with offices in London and Manchester, and its own site lists Manchester, London and New York and says it runs digital PR in the US and several European markets. The site claims 79 awards and says the agency was voted The Drum’s best agency outside London. The company is controlled through Rise At Seven Holdings Limited by its director, Carrie Rose Balloch.
What clients say. Its Clutch profile has no reviews, so there are no usable reviews to quote. The strongest signal is its client list – Emirates, Red Bull, SIXT, Dojo, JD Sports, Parkdean Resorts, Revolution Beauty and PrettyLittleThing.
Facts: founded 2019 · Sheffield · 50–249 people · minimum project $10,000 · English.
My take: the agency I would brief for campaign-led SEO that has to earn coverage and links in the UK, the US and Europe at the same time. Best for: consumer and B2B brands that want digital PR-led SEO and campaign content that earns links and coverage in the UK, US and Europe. Not for: buyers who want only technical SEO or a small, low-cost retainer.

3. Re:signal
Specialist eCommerce SEO and GEO agency, including multilingual sites
Re:signal is a specialist eCommerce SEO and GEO agency that covers traditional search, retail search on Google Shopping and Amazon, AI search and social search. Clutch lists technical, international and multilingual, and Shopify and Magento SEO, with about 80% of its work in eCommerce. The team works remotely from a registered office in London, it is a B Corp, and it says it has won 88–91 search awards, including Best SEO Agency at the UK and Global Search Awards. Clients include ASICS, Under Armour, Ocado, FatFace, VivoBarefoot and Expedia.
What clients say. Clutch: 4.9/5 from 4 reviews. Reviewers from Bath, London and Hoofddorp in the Netherlands praise its expertise, efficient project management and communication; one wanted clearer cause-and-effect reporting. Quality scores 4.8 and cost 4.6. Four reviews is a small sample, so the client list carries as much weight.
Facts: founded 2012 · London (remote) · 10–49 people · $150–199/h · minimum project $5,000 · English.
My take: my first call for an online retailer, especially one with several country or language versions of its store. Best for: online retailers and DTC brands, including international and multilingual sites, that want SEO tied to revenue forecasts. Not for: B2B lead-generation or non-ecommerce sites.

4. Reboot Online
Data-led SEO, GEO and digital PR agency with an international focus
Reboot Online is a search marketing agency covering SEO, GEO (generative engine optimisation), digital PR, earned media, link building, data and resource pages and SEO training. It is fully remote, with a registered address in London, and positions itself as international. Awards on its site include Best Large SEO Agency at the Global Search Awards 2026, GEO Campaign of the Year at PRmoment 2026 and Standout Organic Content Campaign at the UKDEA 2026. The company was incorporated in 2012 and is run by Shai and Naomi Aharony.
What clients say. I could not load its Clutch profile, so there are no usable reviews here. The strongest signal is the client list – Uswitch, Just Eat, TUI, eToro, Confused.com, Tripadvisor, Wix and Forbes – most of them in highly competitive search markets.
Facts: London (remote) · English.
My take: the one to hire when you are up against big publishers and comparison sites and need links that data-led PR campaigns earn. Best for: brands that want data-led digital PR and link earning to support competitive SEO, including in international markets. Not for: buyers who want an in-person, office-based team.

5. Builtvisible
Technical and enterprise SEO, content and digital PR, now part of Brave Bison
Builtvisible is a London SEO, content and digital PR agency founded in 2009 and known for technical and enterprise organic search work. Its services are grouped as search strategy, campaigns and brand activation, and consultancy and transformation. Since March 2025 it has been part of Brave Bison Group plc, a UK-incorporated, London-headquartered listed group, which press reports say paid £3.5m for it. Its Clutch profile cites Moz Recommended, RAR accreditation and Drum Elite agency status.
What clients say. Its Clutch profile has no reviews, and the rate shown there ($50–99 an hour) looks out of date, so I left it out. The strongest signals are its long technical SEO track record and the accreditations above; named clients include GLL and Towergate.
Facts: founded 2009 · London · 10–49 people · English.
My take: a strong choice for senior technical SEO on a large site, with the bonus of a wider listed group behind it if you later need paid or social. Best for: enterprise and mid-market brands that want senior technical SEO and content strategy, with access to the wider Brave Bison group for paid and social. Not for: buyers who specifically want an independent, owner-run boutique.

6. Blue Array
Pure-play SEO and GEO agency with strong technical and training work
Blue Array is a pure-play organic search agency from Reading, with a London office on Paul Street, that calls itself the UK’s largest specialist SEO and GEO agency. It covers SEO and GEO strategy, technical SEO, audits, content, digital PR, CRO, app store optimisation and SEO training. It is a certified B Corp, and its site says many team members are shareholders; the founder, Simon Schnieders, is the person with significant control.
What clients say. I could not load its Clutch profile, so there are no usable reviews, and few clients are named on its site – GoCardless is one. The strongest signals are its SEO-only focus and its B Corp certification.
Facts: founded 2015 · Reading · English.
My take: the pick if you want an agency that does organic search and nothing else, and want your own team trained along the way. Best for: companies that want an SEO-only specialist with strong technical and training capability. Not for: buyers who want paid media or broader marketing from the same agency.
Visit bluearray.co.uk →Company profile & reviews →
7. Semetrical
Engineering-heavy technical SEO and data consultancy for enterprise sites
Semetrical is a London technical and enterprise SEO and data consultancy formed in 2013 (Clutch says 2012). It offers SEO, GEO, paid media, analytics implementation and training, and builds custom tools and AI agents, including its own Tomo robots.txt tool, the Dexter article tracker and the Ogorki5 automated checks. It is run by four long-standing directors.
What clients say. Its Clutch profile has no reviews. Client logos on its site include LexisNexis, Ticketmaster, Stripe, Vogue, Cloudflare and Sotheby’s, though with no detail on the work; the tools it builds itself are the stronger signal.
Facts: founded 2013 · London · 10–49 people · $100–149/h · minimum project $5,000 · English.
My take: the one I would hire for a large publisher or enterprise site where the SEO problems are really engineering and data problems. Best for: large publishers and enterprise sites that need engineering-heavy technical SEO and analytics. Not for: small local businesses or buyers looking for digital PR campaigns.

8. Screaming Frog
Search marketing agency from the makers of the SEO Spider crawler
Screaming Frog is a search marketing agency in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, covering SEO, link earning, PPC, social ads and content. It also develops the Screaming Frog SEO Spider, a widely used desktop crawler for technical SEO. Its four directors have been in place since 2010–2014. The team size and rate shown on Clutch are probably out of date.
What clients say. Clutch: 5.0/5 from 1 reviews. The single review, from a small web design agency in Budapest, calls the team reliable and quick to reply. One review proves little; the SEO Spider itself is the strongest signal of its technical depth.
Facts: founded 2010 · Henley-on-Thames · 10–49 people · $50–99/h · minimum project $1,000 · English.
My take: the obvious choice for a technical audit or a site migration – and, on its Clutch figures, the lowest entry price here. Best for: technical SEO audits and migrations from the team behind a leading SEO crawler. Not for: buyers who want digital PR-led brand campaigns.
Visit screamingfrog.co.uk →Company profile & reviews →
9. Kaizen
Creative digital PR agency for links and authority, with SEO and AI search
Kaizen is a London and Manchester agency offering SEO, digital PR, GEO and AI search, social and PPC, best known for data-led digital PR campaigns. Its offices are at Zetland House in London EC2A and Embankment East Tower in Manchester. The company was incorporated in 2013.
What clients say. I could not load its Clutch profile, so there are no usable reviews. The strongest signal is its case studies, including multi-market digital PR for Reebok that reached France; other named clients include Aqua, Greenford Quay and Mogo Farm.
Facts: London · English.
My take: worth a call when links and brand authority are your bottleneck, including for campaigns outside the UK. Best for: brands that want creative digital PR to build links and authority for SEO. Not for: buyers who want deep technical SEO engineering only.
Visit kaizen.co.uk →Company profile & reviews →
10. Digitaloft
SEO and digital PR agency from Cumbria focused on buying-stage searches
Digitaloft is a search agency with offices in Kendal (Cumbria) and Manchester, covering SEO, technical SEO, content, digital PR and GEO, with a focus on winning buying-stage searches in traditional, AI and social search. It won Standout B2C SEO Campaign of the Year at the UK Digital Excellence Awards 2026 and holds PRCA CMS accreditation (August 2026). The legal entity behind it is James Brockbank Ltd.
What clients say. There are no usable reviews: I found no Clutch profile with ratings. The strongest signals are its 2026 award and its PRCA accreditation; client names and logos on its site include Booking.com for Business, Emma, Harley Street Skin Clinic, Sopro, Remitly and AG1.
Facts: Kendal · English.
My take: a sensible option if you want senior SEO and digital PR without London overheads. Best for: brands that want SEO plus digital PR from a senior, mid-sized team at non-London rates. Not for: buyers who need paid media or a large multi-office agency.
Visit digitaloft.co.uk →Company profile & reviews →
Quality, specialisation and what SEO agencies in the UK charge
Only a few SEO agencies in the UK in this ranking show prices, and only on Clutch: Impression and Re:signal list $150–199 an hour with a $5,000 minimum, Semetrical $100–149 with a $5,000 minimum, Rise at Seven a $10,000 minimum project and Screaming Frog $50–99 with a $1,000 minimum. The rest quote after a briefing. Clutch shows these figures in US dollars, but expect a UK agency to quote and invoice in pounds sterling, so ask early whether it can contract in USD or EUR and who carries the exchange-rate risk on a long retainer.
Quality matters more than the hourly rate. The main split is between integrated agencies such as Impression, digital PR-led agencies such as Rise at Seven, Reboot Online, Kaizen and Digitaloft, eCommerce specialists such as Re:signal, and technical specialists such as Builtvisible, Blue Array, Semetrical and Screaming Frog. Hiring a PR-led agency to fix a broken site architecture – or a technical team to win national press – is the most expensive mistake I see.
How to choose an SEO agency in the UK
Choosing an SEO agency in the UK as a foreign company comes down to a few practical checks:
- Match the specialism to the problem – technical issues and migrations need a technical team; a site that is sound but lacks authority needs digital PR; an online store needs eCommerce experience.
- Check the company on Companies House – it is free and public. Look up the company number, confirm the status is active, see who the directors and persons with significant control are, and check whether accounts are filed on time. An agency may trade under a different legal name; Digitaloft, for example, is James Brockbank Ltd.
- VAT after Brexit – the UK is outside the EU VAT system. B2B services that a UK agency supplies to a business outside the UK are normally invoiced without UK VAT; an EU business usually accounts for VAT itself under the reverse charge. Give the agency your VAT number and business details before the first invoice.
- Time zone – the UK runs on GMT in winter and BST in summer. That covers the whole EU working day with a one-hour difference for most of the continent, and overlaps US East Coast mornings, so plan calls with US teams before lunch Eastern time.
- Markets beyond the UK – if you need results in the US or in other languages, ask for case studies from those markets. Impression and Rise at Seven have a New York presence, and Re:signal works on multilingual stores.
Also ask who will actually work on your account, how results are reported and how much notice the contract needs – most SEO work runs as a monthly retainer.
SEO agencies in the UK: FAQ
The questions foreign companies ask most before hiring SEO agencies in the UK.
Do SEO agencies in the UK charge VAT to foreign clients?
No, SEO agencies in the UK normally do not charge UK VAT on B2B services to businesses outside the UK. An EU business usually accounts for VAT in its own country under the reverse charge, so make sure the agency has your VAT number before it invoices.
Can SEO agencies in the UK work for US companies?
Yes, many SEO agencies in the UK work for US companies, and the UK working day overlaps US East Coast mornings. Impression and Rise at Seven both have a presence in New York, which makes them the easiest start for a US brand.
Which SEO agency in the UK is best for eCommerce?
The best SEO agency in the UK for eCommerce is, in my opinion, Re:signal, which does about 80% of its work for online retailers and handles multilingual stores. Impression is the alternative if you also want paid media from the same team.
How do I check an SEO agency in the UK before signing?
To check an SEO agency in the UK before signing, look it up on Companies House by name or company number. Confirm that it is active, see who its directors and owners are and whether its accounts are up to date, then ask for references from clients in your market.
My verdict: which SEO agency in the UK to hire
The right SEO agency in the UK depends on your problem. For SEO, paid media and digital PR from one team, hire Impression. For campaign-led SEO across the UK, the US and Europe, hire Rise at Seven. For an online store, hire Re:signal. For competitive markets where links decide rankings, hire Reboot Online. For technical SEO on a large site, hire Builtvisible or Semetrical, and for an audit or migration, Screaming Frog.
Whichever SEO agency in the UK you choose, agree the currency, the VAT treatment and the reporting before the retainer starts – they are far easier to settle at the beginning than halfway through.
