Best Logistics Companies in Portugal (2026): 8 Companies Reviewed

Portugal sits at the western end of the Iberian road network, with deep-sea ports at Sines, Leixões and Lisbon and long-standing links to Portuguese-speaking Africa and Brazil. This ranking is written for a company from the US, the UK, another EU country or the Nordics that needs one of the logistics companies in Portugal – to move goods into or out of the country, to distribute across Iberia, or to store stock near a Portuguese port. I kept 8 companies, all registered and headquartered in Portugal, and for each one I read the NIPC (company number), legal form and registered seat in eInforma.pt and, where noted, nif.pt.

Logistics companies in Portugal at a glance

If you only have a minute, these are the logistics companies in Portugal I would shortlist as a foreign shipper, in the order I would contact them. Each is reviewed below, with its registry data on its company profile.

  1. Luís Simões – Portuguese road transport and contract logistics operator covering the whole Iberian Peninsula.
  2. Torrestir – Braga road, air, sea and logistics provider with a national network and branches in Spain and Germany.
  3. Rangel Logistics Solutions – Founder-led Porto-area customs, forwarding and contract logistics group with its own network in Portuguese-speaking Africa and Brazil.

How I ranked the logistics companies in Portugal

I ranked the logistics companies in Portugal by quality first, fit for a foreign client second and price third:

  • Service mix – Iberian road freight and warehousing (Luís Simões), national distribution including the islands (Torrestir), customs and international forwarding (Rangel, Garland, Lusocargo), port and maritime services (Grupo ETE) and specialist road haulage (Patinter for vehicles and full loads, Transportes Paulo Duarte for tankers).
  • Reach – own branches abroad count: Torrestir in Spain and Germany, Rangel in Africa, Brazil and Mexico, Grupo ETE in nine markets, Transportes Paulo Duarte across Spain.
  • Information I could check – I could not read the websites of Garland, Patinter or Lusocargo, which pushed them down.
  • Reviews – none of the eight has a review sample on Clutch or Google that I could use, so for each I name the strongest other signal.
  • Registration and ownership – NIPC, legal form and registered seat come from eInforma.pt and nif.pt, free sites that republish Portuguese register data. Most of these are groups with several companies; I name the one I checked and say when you will probably contract with another. I did not read filed accounts, so I quote no revenue figures.

The list includes only firms registered and headquartered in Portugal. I left out the Portuguese arms of foreign logistics groups, such as DHL and Kuehne+Nagel.

The 8 best logistics companies in Portugal, reviewed

Every logistics company in Portugal below gets the same treatment: who they are, what clients say, the facts that matter when you hire, and my opinion on who should – and should not – work with them.

1. Luís Simões

Portuguese road transport and contract logistics operator covering the whole Iberian Peninsula

Luís Simões is a Portuguese transport and logistics group headquartered in Loures, north of Lisbon, that operates across the whole Iberian Peninsula. Its services are road transport, contract and warehouse logistics, and promotional logistics. The operating company, formerly Transportes Luís Simões, S.A., has been on the register for about 78 years according to eInforma. Its website runs in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The group is widely reported to be family-owned, but I did not confirm its shareholders in a source I read.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no Google review sample I could use, so there are no usable reviews. Its Iberia-wide road and warehouse network is the strongest signal.

Facts: Loures · English, Portuguese, Spanish.

My take: the first company I would ask for a quote when goods have to move by road between Portugal and Spain and be stored on both sides. Best for: shippers that need Portugal–Spain road freight and warehousing at scale. Not for: air or ocean forwarding to distant markets.

2. Torrestir

Braga road, air, sea and logistics provider with a national network and branches in Spain and Germany

Torrestir was founded in 1962 and is run from Braga in northern Portugal. Its website says it has more than 2,000 employees and more than 1,600 vehicles, two logistics centres, 14 national platforms and about 20 branches in mainland Portugal, Madeira, the Azores, Spain and Germany. It offers road, air and sea transport and logistics, with specialities in temperature-controlled and pharma transport, e-commerce, containers and customs brokerage. Its CEO is Fernando Torres, according to its website. The group works through several companies (international, forwarding, Madeira and Azores entities); the one I list is the main logistics company, on the register for about 38 years. Its ownership is not stated in the sources I read.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no Google review sample I could use, so there are no usable reviews. Its national network, including the islands, and its six-language website are the strongest signal.

Facts: founded 1962 · Braga · 2,000+ people · English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian.

My take: my pick for groupage and distribution across mainland Portugal and the islands, with links to Spain and Germany. Best for: companies that need groupage and distribution across Portugal, including Madeira and the Azores, plus links to Spain and Germany. Not for: global project cargo.

3. Rangel Logistics Solutions

Founder-led Porto-area customs, forwarding and contract logistics group with its own network in Portuguese-speaking Africa and Brazil

Rangel is a Portuguese logistics group headquartered in Maia, near Porto. It offers customs services, international road, air, sea and express transport, contract logistics, project cargo, e-commerce and trade-fair logistics, with its own presence in Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cabo Verde, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Brazil and Mexico. Its website names founder Eduardo Rangel as Executive Chairman and his son Nuno Rangel as Vice President and CEO, and Jornal de Negócios (November 2025) reports that the company was founded in 1980. On ownership: it is founder- and family-led, but I found no statement of who holds the shares; the Jornal de Negócios article, which I could not read in full, is filed under investment funds, so an investment-fund shareholder is possible and unconfirmed. The company I list is the group holding, Rangel Invest; your contract will usually be with an operating subsidiary, so ask which one.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no Google review sample I could use, so there are no usable reviews. Its own offices in nine countries, including Portuguese-speaking Africa and Brazil, are the strongest signal.

Facts: founded 1980 · Maia · English, Portuguese, Spanish.

My take: the forwarder I would call first for customs-heavy flows or shipments to Angola, Mozambique, Cabo Verde or Brazil. Best for: shippers to and from Portuguese-speaking Africa and Brazil, and customs-heavy flows. Not for: pure domestic parcel distribution.

4. Grupo ETE

Portuguese-owned maritime, port and logistics group founded in 1936

Grupo ETE was founded in 1936 and says it has 100% Portuguese capital. It works in maritime transport, port operations, river transport, maritime services including ship agency, logistics operations and naval engineering and repair. It reports its own operations in nine markets, including Portugal, Spain, the UK, Belgium, Cabo Verde, Mozambique, Dubai, Colombia and Uruguay. The group consists of many companies; the one I list is its historic parent, Empresa de Tráfego e Estiva, whose registered activity is cargo handling.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no Google review sample I could use, so there are no usable reviews. Ninety years in Portuguese ports is the strongest signal.

Facts: founded 1936 · Lisbon · English, Portuguese.

My take: the group I would talk to for port handling, ship agency or short-sea and river logistics in Portugal. Best for: port handling, ship agency and short-sea or river logistics in Portugal. Not for: road distribution or e-commerce fulfilment.

5. Garland

Long-established Portuguese freight forwarding, shipping, customs and logistics group

Garland is a Portuguese logistics group based in São Domingos de Rana, in the Cascais area west of Lisbon. It runs separate companies for freight forwarding and transport (Garland Transport Solutions), shipping, logistics, customs and pallet express. The forwarding company, formerly Garland Trânsitos, has been on the register for about 38 years. Its website returned a server error when I checked, so I could not read its service pages, and treating Garland Transport Solutions as the main operating company is my own inference – ask which company will contract with you. I did not check its ownership.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no Google review sample I could use, so there are no usable reviews. Its separate forwarding, shipping, customs and logistics companies are the strongest signal.

Facts: São Domingos de Rana · English, Portuguese.

My take: a good fit for an importer or exporter that wants sea, air and road forwarding plus customs from one Portuguese group. Best for: importers and exporters that want sea, air and road forwarding plus customs from one Portuguese group. Not for: buyers who want a single large asset-heavy carrier.

6. Patinter

Portuguese road haulier that started in vehicle transport and runs European full loads

Patinter – Portuguesa de Automóveis Transportadores is a road freight company based in Fornos de Maceira Dão, in the municipality of Mangualde, on the register for about 59 years. As its name says, it started as a vehicle transporter (car carriers), and it works in international road haulage. Related companies include Patinter (II) Logística e Imobiliária and Patinter Management. I could not read its website, so I could not confirm its current services or which languages its team works in.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no Google review sample I could use, so there are no usable reviews. Nearly six decades on the register is the strongest signal.

Facts: Mangualde · Portuguese.

My take: worth a quote for finished-vehicle transport or full-truckload road freight between Portugal and the rest of Europe. Best for: finished-vehicle logistics and full-truckload road freight between Portugal and Europe. Not for: air or sea forwarding.

7. Transportes Paulo Duarte

Portuguese road carrier for fuels, food liquids, distribution and logistics across Iberia

Transportes Paulo Duarte is a Portuguese road transport company, on the register for about 59 years, with its main base at Ota in Alenquer and its registered seat in Ramalhal, north of Lisbon. It has bases in Spain – Alicante, Granada, Palma, Barcelona and Bilbao – and specialises in fuel and food-liquid tankers, distribution, e-commerce and logistics, with refrigerated transport through its Spanish subsidiary Barquín y Otxoa. Its ownership is not stated in the sources I read.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no Google review sample I could use, so there are no usable reviews. Its tanker specialisation and its own bases across Spain are the strongest signal.

Facts: Alenquer · English, Portuguese, Spanish.

My take: my pick for bulk liquids – fuel or food – moved by tanker anywhere in Iberia. Best for: bulk liquid (fuel and food) tanker transport across Iberia. Not for: air or sea forwarding.

8. Lusocargo

Porto-area freight forwarder (transitário) with a sister company near Lisbon

Lusocargo – Transitários is a freight forwarder with its registered seat in Maia, near Porto, on the register for about 42 years, and a southern sister company near Lisbon, Lusocargo (Sul). Its registered activity is transport support and forwarding. Its website blocks automated reading, so I could not list its services or network memberships, and I did not verify its ownership or independence. It is the entry with the least public information in this ranking.

What clients say. I found no Clutch profile and no Google review sample I could use, so there are no usable reviews. Four decades on the register is the only strong signal I could find.

Facts: Maia · English, Portuguese.

My take: worth a call for an exporter in northern Portugal that wants a local forwarder – ask for services and references first. Best for: exporters in northern Portugal that need sea, air or road forwarding. Not for: buyers who need verified service details before first contact.

Quality, specialisation and what logistics companies in Portugal charge

None of the logistics companies in Portugal in this ranking publishes prices. Road freight is usually quoted per load, per pallet or per kilo for groupage, warehousing per pallet place and handling movement, and forwarding per shipment plus customs fees and the carrier’s own charges. Fuel surcharges and island deliveries to Madeira and the Azores often come on top. Quotes and invoices are in euros.

The main choice is between large road and warehouse operators (Luís Simões, Torrestir), customs and international forwarders (Rangel, Garland, Lusocargo), a port and maritime group (Grupo ETE) and specialist hauliers (Patinter, Transportes Paulo Duarte).

How to choose a logistics company in Portugal

Choosing a logistics company in Portugal starts with how your goods arrive and where they need to go:

  • Road to and from Spain – most EU trade with Portugal crosses Spain by road. Luís Simões, Torrestir and Transportes Paulo Duarte have their own bases in Spain; ask whether a quote uses their own trucks or subcontractors.
  • Customs – goods from outside the EU, and shipments to Madeira or the Azores, may involve customs or special tax formalities handled with the Portuguese tax and customs authority (AT). If you import, you need an EORI number; ask whether the company acts as your customs representative. Rangel and Torrestir list customs services. This is not legal advice.
  • Ports and Lusophone markets – for sea freight, ask which ports the company uses; for Angola, Mozambique, Cabo Verde or Brazil, Rangel and Grupo ETE have their own presence.
  • Islands – Madeira and the Azores need sea or air legs; Torrestir has its own companies there.
  • Contracting company – most of these groups trade through several companies. Ask which one will sign your contract and insure your goods, and check it.

Also check the paperwork when you hire a logistics company in Portugal. Look up its NIPC, which is also its tax number and its commercial-register number, on eInforma.pt or nif.pt, or order the official online certificate (certidão permanente) of the commercial register from the Portuguese registries (IRN). Check its VAT number (PT followed by the NIPC) in the EU’s VIES database. The VAT treatment of transport depends on the route and on whether you are a business, so in most cases intra-EU freight for a VAT-registered business in another EU country is invoiced under the reverse charge; confirm with your adviser – this is not tax advice. Mainland Portugal is on Western European Time (UTC+0, the same as London), one hour behind Spain. If you need a Portuguese company to run local filings, see my ranking of accounting firms in Portugal. For comparison, here is the same list for Poland, where rates are often a little lower.

Logistics companies in Portugal: FAQ

The questions foreign shippers ask most before hiring logistics companies in Portugal.

Do logistics companies in Portugal work in English?

Yes, most logistics companies in Portugal that handle international freight work in English, and Luís Simões, Torrestir, Rangel and Grupo ETE have English websites. I could not read the websites of Patinter, Garland or Lusocargo, so confirm the working language with them.

Which logistics company in Portugal is best for shipments to Africa and Brazil?

The best logistics company in Portugal for shipments to Africa and Brazil is, in my view, Rangel, which has its own offices in Angola, Mozambique, Cabo Verde, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania and Brazil. For port and maritime services, Grupo ETE also operates in Cabo Verde and Mozambique.

How much do logistics companies in Portugal charge?

Logistics companies in Portugal charge per load, pallet, kilo or shipment, and none of the eight in this ranking publishes prices. Ask for a written quote that separates freight, fuel surcharge, customs, handling and storage, and states who insures the goods.

Do logistics companies in Portugal deliver to Madeira and the Azores?

Yes, some logistics companies in Portugal deliver to Madeira and the Azores, and Torrestir has its own branches and companies on both. Island deliveries need a sea or air leg and often extra formalities, so ask for the full cost and transit time.

My verdict: which logistics company in Portugal to hire

Choosing among logistics companies in Portugal depends on your route and cargo. For Portugal–Spain road freight and warehousing at scale, hire Luís Simões. For distribution across mainland Portugal and the islands, hire Torrestir. For customs and shipments to Portuguese-speaking Africa or Brazil, hire Rangel. For port handling and ship agency, talk to Grupo ETE. For specialist road haulage, Patinter (vehicles and full loads) and Transportes Paulo Duarte (tankers) are the ones to ask.

Whichever logistics company in Portugal you choose, ask which group company will contract with you, check its NIPC and VAT number, and agree in writing who handles customs and insurance.
