A foreign company with a Swedish subsidiary (an aktiebolag, AB) or a branch needs local bookkeeping, payroll, VAT and employer returns to the Swedish Tax Agency, an annual report filed with Bolagsverket and often a statutory audit. This ranking is written for a company from the US, the UK, another EU country or the rest of the Nordics that is looking for accounting firms in Sweden to take that work on. I kept 5 firms, all registered and headquartered in Sweden, and checked each one’s organisation number (org.nr) and filed accounts on allabolag.se, which republishes Bolagsverket data.

How I ranked the accounting firms in Sweden
I ranked the accounting firms in Sweden by quality first, fit for a foreign client second and price third:
- Foreign-client fit – explicit services for foreign companies and expats (Aspia), an English website (Frejs, Finnhammars) and digital, fully outsourced finance (PE Accounting).
- Audit or accounting – Frejs and Finnhammars are audit firms that also do accounting; Aspia, PE Accounting and Ludvig & Co focus on accounting, payroll, tax and advice.
- Scale and accounts – Swedish annual accounts are public, so I quote turnover, result and employees for the named Swedish company where the research recorded them with a year.
- Reviews – none of these firms has a Clutch or Google review sample I could use, so for each I name the strongest other signal.
- Ownership – I disclose what I found: Aspia is controlled by the UK private equity firm Vitruvian Partners, and Ludvig & Co is 75% owned by Altor funds and 25% by the farmers’ federation LRF. Frejs and Finnhammars are owner-led, and I did not check PE Accounting’s investors.
- Registration – every firm is registered and headquartered in Sweden.
The list includes only firms registered and headquartered in Sweden. I left out the Swedish member firms of global networks that carry the network’s brand, such as the Big Four, BDO and Grant Thornton.
The 5 best accounting firms in Sweden, reviewed
Every accounting firm in Sweden below gets the same treatment: who they are, what clients say, the facts that matter when you hire, and my opinion on who should – and should not – work with them.
1. Aspia
Large Swedish accounting, payroll, tax and HR firm with services for foreign companies and expats
Aspia is a Stockholm-headquartered accounting and advisory firm with more than 1,700 experts, more than 55 offices in Sweden and more than 17,000 clients by its own account. It covers bookkeeping, annual and group accounts, payroll, HR, tax (VAT, transfer pricing and customs), corporate advisory, ESG reporting and interim staff. For foreign companies it offers company set-up in Sweden, payroll for foreign and expatriate employees, immigration and relocation advice and international tax. Aspia Group also includes the Accountor and Skeppsbron Skatt brands and works in Denmark, Finland, Norway and the Netherlands. Ownership: the group has been controlled since 2023 by Vitruvian Partners, a London-based UK private equity firm, which bought it from IK Partners. Aspia AB reported turnover of SEK 1.98bn for 2025 with 1,523 employees, but a net loss of SEK 468m that I could not explain from the figures I read.
What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating. Its explicit services for foreign companies and expats, and its national office network, are the strongest signals.
Facts: Stockholm (55+ offices in Sweden) · 1,700+ people · English, Swedish.
My take: my first call for a foreign company setting up a Swedish subsidiary that needs accounting, payroll and expat tax handled in English – after asking about the 2025 loss. Best for: foreign companies setting up a Swedish subsidiary that need accounting, payroll and expat tax handled in English. Not for: companies that want a statutory auditor – I did not see audit among its services – or the cheapest bookkeeping.

2. PE Accounting
Digital outsourced finance department: bookkeeping, payroll, tax and reporting on its own real-time platform
PE Accounting sells a complete outsourced finance function – bookkeeping, financial accounting, tax returns, payroll and reporting – run by its own accountants on a proprietary system that updates in real time, replacing paper-based processes with digital, automated ones. It was founded in 2010 and has offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. The legal entity is Kleer Group AB, which uses PE Accounting Sweden and Proaktiv Ekonomi as registered secondary business names; I could not confirm whether the customer-facing brand is now Kleer or still PE Accounting, because its websites block automated reading, so the service description comes from its Clutch profile. Kleer Group AB reported turnover of SEK 245.9m and a result after financial items of SEK 12.8m for 2025, with 199 employees. Allabolag shows it heading a small group with no Swedish parent; I did not check its investors, so a foreign or venture shareholder cannot be excluded.
What clients say. PE Accounting has a Clutch profile but no reviews, so there are no usable reviews. Its scale – SEK 245.9m turnover – and its own accounting platform are the strongest signals.
Facts: founded 2010 · Stockholm (also Gothenburg and Malmö) · 199 people · English, Swedish.
My take: the one I would pick for a start-up or growth company, including a foreign-owned Swedish subsidiary, that wants a fully outsourced digital finance department. Best for: start-ups and growth companies, including foreign-owned Swedish subsidiaries, that want a fully outsourced digital finance department. Not for: companies that only need a statutory audit or want to keep their own accounting software.

3. Frejs
Independent Gothenburg audit, accounting and tax firm for owner-managed companies
Frejs Revisorer is a Gothenburg audit and advisory firm with offices in Värnamo and Smålandsstenar. It offers audit, accounting, tax, advisory and start-up help, with a focus on owner-managed companies of all sizes, including clients abroad, and its website is in Swedish and English with an international section. Its parent is the Swedish Frejs Holding AB. I did not read whether it belongs to an international network of independent firms; it trades under its own brand. Frejs Revisorer AB reported turnover of SEK 103.8m for 2025 with 100 employees.
What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating. Its English website, its international section and the combination of audit and accounting in one firm are the signals.
Facts: Gothenburg (also Värnamo and Smålandsstenar) · 100 people · English, Swedish.
My take: my pick for a foreign-owned SME in western Sweden that wants its statutory auditor and its accounting from one firm. Best for: foreign-owned SMEs in western Sweden that need a statutory auditor plus accounting from one firm. Not for: large listed groups.

4. Finnhammars
Owner-led Stockholm-region audit and advisory firm for small and mid-size companies
Finnhammars Revisionsbyrå is an owner-led audit and advisory firm with more than 60 staff by its own account, headquartered in Upplands Väsby with an office on Sveavägen in central Stockholm. It audits small and mid-size companies, including companies that keep an auditor voluntarily, and combines audit with advisory services, and it has an English website. Its parent is the Swedish Finnhammars Sverige Aktiebolag, with no foreign parent shown. Finnhammars Revisionsbyrå AB reported turnover of SEK 45.0m for the financial year to August 2025 with 26 employees; other staff may sit in sister companies.
What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating. Its owner-led structure, English website and focus on SME audits are the signals.
Facts: Upplands Väsby / Stockholm · 60+ people · English, Swedish.
My take: a good fit for a small or mid-size company in the Stockholm region that wants an approachable auditor. Best for: small and mid-size companies in the Stockholm region, including foreign-owned ones, that need an approachable auditor. Not for: groups that need a Big Four-scale international audit.

5. Ludvig & Co
Large Swedish advisory firm for owner-run businesses and farms – accounting, payroll, tax and legal
Ludvig & Co, formerly LRF Konsult, traces its roots to 1918 and provides accounting and payroll, tax, legal, specialist advisory and property brokerage from more than 100 locations across Sweden, with about 70,000 customers by its own account. Ownership: it is 75% owned by funds of Altor, a Nordic private equity firm, and 25% by the Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF). Ludvig & Co AB reported turnover of SEK 1.11bn for 2025 with 938 employees, a result after financial items of SEK 108.0m and a small net loss. I could not confirm an English-language service for foreign companies.
What clients say. No usable Clutch or Google review sample was checked for this ranking, so I give no rating. Its national network of more than 100 locations and more than a century of history are the signals.
Facts: founded 1918 · Stockholm (100+ locations in Sweden) · 938 people · Swedish.
My take: the firm I would choose for a business outside the big cities, or in farming and rural trades, that wants local accounting, tax and legal support. Best for: owner-managed companies and rural or agricultural businesses that need local accounting, tax and legal support across Sweden. Not for: foreign start-ups that want English-first entity and expat services.

Quality, specialisation and what accounting firms in Sweden charge
None of the accounting firms in Sweden in this ranking publishes a price list in the research I used: bookkeeping, payroll and audit are quoted after the firm has seen your company’s size, number of transactions and reporting needs, usually as a fixed monthly or annual fee or by the hour, in Swedish kronor (SEK), which floats against the euro. As a general observation, Swedish professional fees are high by EU standards, so a clean, digital bookkeeping set-up on your side saves real money.
The main choice is between a large national accounting and payroll firm with expat services (Aspia), a digital outsourced finance department (PE Accounting), audit firms that also keep the books (Frejs in western Sweden, Finnhammars around Stockholm) and a national network for owner-run and rural businesses (Ludvig & Co).
How to choose an accounting firm in Sweden
Choosing an accounting firm in Sweden starts with what your Swedish company must file and who has to sign it:
- Audit or no audit – a Swedish AB files an annual report with Bolagsverket every year, and many must also have a statutory auditor; small companies below certain size thresholds can usually opt out. Ask the firm whether the exemption applies to you – this is not legal advice. If you need an audit, choose an audit firm such as Frejs or Finnhammars.
- Payroll – Swedish payroll means monthly employer returns to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), employer social contributions on top of salaries and, at many employers, collective-agreement terms. Aspia also handles payroll for foreign and expatriate employees.
- Language – English is excellent in Swedish firms; Frejs and Finnhammars have English websites, and Aspia markets its services to foreign companies and expats. I could not confirm English service at Ludvig & Co or PE Accounting, so ask.
- Group reporting – if your parent needs reporting packages in its own format or under IFRS, ask how the firm handles it and whether it can work with your group auditor.
- Location – Frejs suits companies in western Sweden, Finnhammars the Stockholm region, and Aspia and Ludvig & Co cover the whole country.
Also check the paperwork when you hire an accounting firm in Sweden. Look up the ten-digit organisation number (org.nr) at Bolagsverket, the Swedish Companies Registration Office (bolagsverket.se), or for free on allabolag.se, which shows directors, group structure and filed accounts. The Swedish VAT number is usually SE, the org.nr without the hyphen and 01; check it in the EU’s VIES database. On VAT, in most cases the firm’s fees to a VAT-registered business in another EU country carry no Swedish VAT under the reverse charge, while fees to your Swedish subsidiary do carry Swedish VAT; confirm with your adviser – this is not legal or tax advice. Sweden is on Central European Time (CET). For comparison, here is the same list for Poland, where rates are usually lower, and the same list for Denmark.
Accounting firms in Sweden: FAQ
The questions foreign companies ask most before hiring accounting firms in Sweden.
Do accounting firms in Sweden work in English?
Yes, most accounting firms in Sweden work in English; Frejs and Finnhammars have English websites, and Aspia markets its services to foreign companies and expats. I could not confirm English service at Ludvig & Co or PE Accounting, so ask before you sign.
Does my Swedish subsidiary need an audit from an accounting firm in Sweden?
No, not always: many small Swedish companies can opt out of a statutory audit by an accounting firm in Sweden if they stay below the size thresholds, but larger companies must have an auditor. Ask your firm which rules apply to your company. This is not legal advice.
How much do accounting firms in Sweden charge?
Accounting firms in Sweden charge fixed monthly or annual fees or hourly rates quoted after they see your company, and none of the five in this ranking publishes a price list in the research I used. Ask for a written quote that separates bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns, the annual report and the audit.
Which accounting firm in Sweden is best for a foreign company setting up a subsidiary?
The best accounting firm in Sweden for a foreign company setting up a subsidiary is, in my view, Aspia, which offers company set-up, payroll for expatriate employees and international tax. If you want a fully digital outsourced finance department instead, add PE Accounting to the shortlist.
My verdict: which accounting firm in Sweden to hire
Choosing among accounting firms in Sweden depends on what you need. For a foreign company setting up a subsidiary with expat staff, hire Aspia. For a fully outsourced digital finance department, hire PE Accounting. For audit and accounting from one firm in western Sweden, hire Frejs, and around Stockholm, Finnhammars. For an owner-run or rural business anywhere in Sweden, hire Ludvig & Co.
Whichever accounting firm in Sweden you choose, agree in writing who prepares the annual report, who signs the audit and when VAT, employer returns and payroll are filed.
